in recognition of her distinguished service to womens’ golf and the great honour she brought to her Club.

Pat Fletcher won the Irish Close Champion at Portmarnock in 1934 when only 22 years old. She was also a semi-finalist in 1931, 1936 and 1938.

According to a report of the Cork Examiner in June 1934 describing the final in glowing terms, Pat played the last ten holes from 7th to 16th inclusive in 39 shots, to win against a former champion, Mrs. Walker by 3 & 2.

Pat joined Foxrock in 1937, after her marriage to Mr. Eddie Fletcher (Captain 1949, President 1957). In 1938 she reached the semi-final of the British Ladies Championship. Pat played for Ireland in 1932, ’34, ’35,’36’, ’38 and ’39. She captained the Irish team in 1936, a formidable role for a 24 year old playing member of the team. She returned to play Home Internationals in 1954 and, in 1955, the year of her last appearance for Ireland, she captured the Leinster Scratch Cup which had somehow eluded her up to that time.

The honours bestowed upon her are legion and included nomination as non-playing Captain of the Irish team in 1966 and selector for the L.G.U, which involved selecting Curtis Cup players. She graced every office of the I.L.G.U, was elected to the Presidency of the Union in 1983, an office she held for two years, and was made Life Vice President. Each year, the Ladies compete for the Pat Fletcher Cup, presented in our Centenary Year 1993. Pat’s daughter Patricia was a member for many years and her daughter Edwina is a long-standing member and former Lady Captain of Foxrock Golf Club.
